Start up and run your own business

Our Certificate in Enterprise Awareness is a self-paced, online programme that has been designed to provide you with relevant skills and knowledge, as well as practical know-how, to enable you to successfully start up and run a new business.

The programme is certificated by the Institute of Enterprise and Entrepreneurs (IOEE) and includes a structured digital workbook with learning, information and practical exercises, a range of short eLearning courses, business planning templates, fact sheets and a knowledge test. This programme does not require participants to complete a formal assessment to achieve certification.

By completing this programme you will:

  • Gain a general understanding about enterprise, starting up a new business and business structures,
  • Create a business plan and assess your goals, objectives and risks,
  • Consider the internal and external influences that might affect the success of your business
  • Create a cash flow forecast for your business and get a general awareness of business finance and resources,

Qualifications in Business Enterprise

Our online resources have been approved by SFEDI Awards, the awarding body that specialises in enterprise and entrepreneurship. They are designed to support the completion of an accredited qualification at level 1, 2 or 3 and include structured self-study materials with practical exercises and assessment activities.

Each section of your study programme contains a range of short eLearning courses, videos, business planning templates and fact sheets.

These qualifications will require you to submit your completed workbook for assessment at the end of the programme.

Level 2 Award and Certificate in Self Employment

This programme is designed to provide you with relevant skills and knowledge, as well as practical know-how that will enable you to successfully start up and run a self-employed business. You don’t need to have completed the level 1 qualification to participate in this programme and by the end of it you will:

  • Understand the skills and knowledge required to run a business
  • Understand the legal and operational requirements of self-employment
  • Understand the importance of business planning
  • Understand about the business environment
  • Understand about challenges and risks within business
  • Understand about researching a market
Level 3 Award and Certificate in Innovation, Growth and Sustainability

Level 3 Award and Certificate in Innovation, Growth and Sustainability

This programme provides the skills, knowledge and practical awareness that you will need to successfully grow your new business enterprise. You don’t need to have completed the level 2 qualification to participate in this programme and by the end of it you will:

  • Review your business plan and strategy to ensure it meets current requirements,
  • Extend your knowledge of business finance and review your budgets and cash flow forecast,
  • Learn more about innovation and creativity in business,
  • Assess your sales and marketing strategy and create or update your marketing plan,
  • Understand how you can improve your service to existing customers and attract new ones,
  • Consider requirements for effective team working for improved performance and profitability.
